How I Became a Cub Scout Leader

Last year, I took my son to his school to sign him up for Tigers.  We walk into our den and another leader joins us.  She then goes on to explain how we need a parent volunteer.  Here I sit with another mom amongst a group of Dads.  Here's the thing....I have a problem being able to say no for anything. That's why I was President of my local MOMS club chapter for four years.  ;)  The leader asks for a volunteer to run the den and I swear, you could hear crickets.  She crosses her arms across her chest and says that there won't be a den unless someone volunteers.  I do no want my son to suffer so I raise my hand.  The other mom then tells me she will assist me and that's how I became a Den Leader.  I know this appears that I was bullied into being a leader but I guess I just needed that shove to "step up."  I am so glad I did as I'm having a blast!!
By the end of my first scouting year, I managed to have 9 boys rank and earn countless belt loops and patches and then volunteered as Committee Secretary as well.  I'm currently into my second year of scouting and I'm still Committee Secretary and Wolf Den 1 leader.  Our scouting year is coming to a close and I told our Committee Chair that I would return as Bear Den 1 leader and then was asked to be Assistant Cubmaster.  I'm hoping someone else will take over as secretary.  ;)

I hope to fill in the highlights of my Tiger year and then my Wolf year.  I love perusing pinterest to get new ideas for the different requirements so I hope to help someone else during this fun journey!
